You don't get a highlight reel for the disease that never happened, and that's basically Louis Pasteur's whole legacy โ germ theory, vaccination, pasteurization, all of it prevention, all of it invisible once it works the way it's supposed to. I think about that in coaching terms honestly, because the best defensive game plan in basketball often looks like nothing happened, no flashy blocks, no highlight, just a team that never let the other side get a clean shot off all night. Nobody claps for that the way they clap for a buzzer-beater. Pasteur revolutionized medicine and public health with work that mostly shows up as an absence โ the sickness that didn't spread, the milk that didn't make anyone ill โ and that kind of quiet, foundational contribution rarely gets its due compared to something more dramatic. You want to talk about a real underdog story, though: prevention beating out cure for credit is basically prevention's whole career-long fight. Pasteur won that fight for entire generations of people who'll never know his name saved them anything.
