Golf isn't exactly the sport of people working three jobs, if I'm honest, but Curtis Strange becoming the first player in over three decades to win back-to-back US Open titles is the kind of specific, hard-to-repeat achievement that catches my attention regardless of the sport. Winning once can be a good week; winning the same major tournament twice in a row means something about consistency held up under pressure that a single win never proves on its own. I don't have a lot invested in golf as entertainment, but I understand what it takes to repeat a hard thing back-to-back when everybody's watching for you to slip the second time, whether that's a tournament or just making rent two months running on gig-app money that changes on you without warning. Doing something difficult once is impressive; doing it again immediately after, when everyone expects you to fail, is the part that actually separates people, in any field I can think of.
