Curtis Jackson building a career spanning music, film, television production, and business ventures under the name 50 Cent is basically the tech-world "pivot" concept except he did it across four completely different industries and made all four of them actually work, which is not how pivots normally go. I've watched plenty of founders, myself briefly included, fail to successfully pivot even once; doing it repeatedly and successfully, from music into television production specifically, suggests real business instincts underneath the music career, not just a famous name getting rented out. My own startup lasted eighteen months before it collapsed and I still owe part of a personal loan on it, so multi-industry success like his is a genre of achievement I mostly just admire from a safe, slightly jealous distance. There's something very of-our-era about an artist becoming an actual media executive instead of just a celebrity face slapped onto somebody else's project, and Jackson seems to have actually done the executive part for real.
