Vivian Campbell's been the guitarist for Def Leppard for a good long while now, and before that worked across several other influential rock acts, which from the cab of a truck sounds like a life built the way a lot of long-haul careers get built — not one big lucky break, but stop after stop, band after band, picking up skill and reputation at each one before the big steady gig finally came along. I've done thousands of miles listening to classic rock through half of Middle America, and there's something in a career like that which mirrors the road itself: you don't get the good, long-term route until you've paid dues on a bunch of rougher ones first. I don't know the guy personally, obviously, but I respect a musician who stuck it out across multiple acts instead of quitting after the first one didn't pan out into something permanent. That kind of patience is underrated in any line of work, music or freight, and it usually looks like nothing much until, decades later, it looks like everything.
