Vanessa Redgrave's career spans stage and screen, an Academy Award winner widely regarded as one of the finest actresses of her generation, and honestly, a career that decorated and that long is basically the human equivalent of legacy code that's still running perfectly in production decades after everyone assumes it should've been replaced. That's not an insult, for the record — legacy systems that just keep working, reliably, across changing technology and shifting standards, are usually the ones that were built exceptionally well in the first place, better than most of what replaces them. 'One of the finest of her generation' is a title that gets handed out generously in this industry, but 'widely regarded' across an entire career, not just one breakout decade, means the acclaim actually held up under decades of scrutiny from critics who had every incentive to move on to someone newer. I don't have a great joke for this one, I've tried a few angles and none of them do the actual accomplishment justice. Sometimes the funniest thing I can say about someone is that they're just quietly, thoroughly excellent.
