Vanessa-Mae is a violinist known for blending classical technique with pop and electronic music, one of the best-selling violinists in history, which tells me two things at once — she had the discipline for classical training, which takes years of unglamorous practice most people never see, and then the nerve to go do something unconventional with it instead of just staying in the traditional lane everybody expected. I respect that combination more than pure natural talent, honestly, because discipline is something anybody can choose to build regardless of where they started, and it usually gets less credit than raw talent even though it's the harder, longer part of the equation. I don't know classical violin from pop violin, that's not my world, but 'best-selling' at that level, blending two audiences that don't always overlap, isn't an accident. That takes real calculated skill in figuring out how to reach people who weren't necessarily looking for classical music at all. I have some patience for people who take an unconventional path, as long as the discipline underneath it is actually real, and this sounds like it was.
