Sarah Josepha Hale (1788-1879)

An influential writer and editor, Sarah Josepha Hale campaigned for nearly 40 years to establish Thanksgiving as a national holiday, succeeding in 1863, and also wrote the beloved nursery rhyme 'Mary Had a Little Lamb.'
