Renée Elise Goldsberry won a Tony Award originating the role of Angelica Schuyler in "Hamilton," and I always think about how much unglamorous work usually sits underneath a role people remember as effortless and iconic — years of training, years of smaller roles nobody talks about, before landing the one that finally gets the awards attention. Originating a role means there was no earlier performance to study or copy either; she had to build it from nothing and make it work well enough that it became the definitive version other actresses get compared to afterward. That's a specific kind of pressure most jobs don't carry. I respect the "originating" part of her story more than the Tony itself, honestly, because inventing something that then becomes the standard is a harder job than performing something already proven to work. A lot of people get credit for excellence in a role somebody else already figured out how to make land. Goldsberry had to figure it out first, live, with no safety net underneath her.
