Noah Wyle played Dr. John Carter on "ER" for years and more recently took on a similar kind of role in "The Pitt," and both times critics and audiences have praised him specifically for how convincingly he portrays dedicated medical professionals under real pressure. I've met a lot of actual medical workers at truck stops and diners over twenty-two years on the road — nurses coming off overnight shifts, EMTs grabbing coffee before a long haul of their own — and the good ones all have this particular quiet exhaustion mixed with competence that's genuinely hard to fake on screen. Apparently Wyle's managed to capture that same thing twice, decades apart, in two different shows, which tells me it's not a fluke performance so much as an actor who's studied that specific kind of quiet dedication closely and gotten it right on purpose. Playing "reliable and worn out but still showing up" convincingly, twice, in two different decades, is a genuinely underrated acting trick.
