Max Verstappen (b. 1997)

Max Verstappen becoming a Formula One World Champion, and one of the most successful drivers of his generation, is a career built on split-second precision that I honestly find a little terrifying to think about too closely, the same fine margin for error I feel some mornings at four a.m. when I'm the only one awake and the oven timing has to be exact or the whole batch is ruined. His actual given name, Max Emilian, is a nice little detail buried under the nickname everybody actually uses, which reminds me a bit of how differently my own daughter's two grandmothers say her name, each in their own family's rhythm, and how much identity can hide inside something as small as a name's full version versus its everyday one. Being one of the most successful drivers of an entire generation means sustaining that level of precision race after race, not just for one perfect afternoon, which is the harder, less glamorous half of any kind of excellence, racing or baking both.
