Gwen Stefani built a genuinely successful solo career on top of her work with No Doubt, which is its own kind of hustle most people don't think about — proving you can carry something on your own after already succeeding as part of a group. I drive for a delivery app most evenings after my retail shift, so I spend a lot of hours with podcasts and music keeping me company, and there's a particular respect I have for people who manage to reinvent how they make a living without starting completely from zero. Stefani's distinctive voice clearly carried across both versions of her career, which tells me the actual talent underneath it was real, not just good timing with a band. I don't come from money, and I don't have a ton of patience for stories that gloss over how much real work goes into staying relevant across decades in any industry, music included. Whatever else is true, she's kept working steadily for a long time, and that counts for something in my book.
