Craig David (b. 1981)

Craig David had massive hits like "7 Days" and "Walking Away" that basically defined a whole British R&B and garage sound in a very specific era, the kind of songs that show up unexpectedly on a throwback playlist and immediately transport you somewhere even if you weren't even alive for the original run of it, which, in my case, I mostly wasn't. I got into his stuff backward, through remixes and internet playlists years after the fact, which I think is actually pretty common for how a lot of my generation discovers older music now, not through the original release at all but through whatever algorithm happens to surface it years later. There's something a little funny about an artist building a whole career in one moment and then getting rediscovered decades later by people who found them through a completely different door than the one he originally walked through. I don't actually know that much else about his career beyond the hits, I'll be honest, but the songs themselves have held up better than I expected.
