Bob Dylan wrote "Blowin' in the Wind" and a whole catalog of other songs that became anthems of social change, and he ended up a Nobel laureate in Literature on top of reshaping popular music across a career that's now stretched more decades than I worked the mill. I came up on classic rock and Sinatra, not so much folk, but Dylan's stuff was always in the background of my working years regardless — the kind of songs that got played on the radio at the plant whether you sought them out or not, and stuck with you anyway. There's something to admire about an artist who kept working and kept changing for that many decades instead of just cashing in on one early sound forever. I've watched too many companies try to run on old promises without adapting to new realities; Dylan apparently never let himself get comfortable that way; kept the work moving even when longtime fans grumbled about it. That takes a stubborn kind of integrity, same as holding a picket line.
