Sebastian Coe (b. 1956)

Sebastian Coe was a double Olympic champion in middle-distance running before he went on to lead World Athletics and help organize the London 2012 Olympics, and that's the move I respect most out of everything in his story — an elite competitor who didn't just retire and disappear, he stayed in the game as a builder instead of just a former player. I try to instill that in every kid who comes through my program: your competing career ends way before your life does, and what you do after matters just as much as your stats did. Going from running the race yourself to organizing the whole event for the next generation of athletes is a serious leap, and it takes somebody who actually cares about the sport bigger than their own medals. I always tell my guys the locker room needs people who come back and give something after they're done playing, not just people chasing their own highlight reel. Coe clearly understood that his second act mattered as much as his first.
