Oliver Sacks was a neurologist who wrote books, Awakenings among the most famous, that somehow made the science of the human brain read less like a textbook and more like actual stories about actual people, which sounds simple until you realize how rare that combination actually is. I've been the designated explainer in my family my whole life, translating for relatives, explaining forms, explaining America basically, and I have a real appreciation for anyone who can take something genuinely complicated and make it land for someone who has no background in it at all, without dumbing it down or losing what made it complicated in the first place. Sacks apparently did that for entire conditions most people had never heard of, treating his patients as full people with actual stories instead of case studies to be summarized in five bullet points. That's a harder skill than it sounds, and it's the whole reason I ended up leaning communications instead of something more technical myself. Making things understandable to people is its own real discipline.
