Mark Hamill will forever be Luke Skywalker to generations of "Star Wars" fans, and he's also quietly built a hugely respected career as a voice actor, most notably as the Joker in countless animated productions over the years. My daughter watched those movies over and over as a little girl, back before she got into medical school, and I remember the particular joy on her face every single time, which is its own kind of gift a performer gives a family without ever meeting them. What strikes me about Hamill's story is the second act — not everybody who gets that famous, that young, for one iconic role manages to build a whole separate, respected career doing something completely different with their voice alone. That takes a kind of humility and reinvention a lot of famous people never bother with once the first success arrives. I think there's something almost like caregiving in that, giving people, especially kids, decades more joy quietly, from behind the scenes.
