Kevin Bacon co-founded SixDegrees.org, using that whole 'six degrees of separation' idea people used to joke about with his name attached to it, and turning it into an actual charitable platform connecting celebrities and regular fans with causes they care about. I spent 34 years as a union rep, and the whole point of union organizing is basically that same principle — that people are connected to each other in ways that matter, and that those connections can be put to real use for something bigger than any one person, if somebody bothers to actually build the structure for it. Bacon's had a versatile career as an actor for a long time, plenty of memorable roles, but taking a pop-culture joke about his own name and turning it into a functioning charitable network is the kind of practical, slightly clever move I have real respect for. Not every celebrity finds a way to make their own fame actually useful to somebody else. Bacon found a genuinely good angle on it.
