Julian Lennon built his own recording career and also grew up carrying one of the most famous surnames in music history, which strikes me as a uniquely specific kind of pressure — imagine every single review of your work getting compared to somebody else's entire legacy before anyone's even judged your song on its own terms. He also runs the White Feather Foundation doing humanitarian work, which is the part of his story I find more interesting than the music comparisons everybody else focuses on. My parents immigrated from Bangalore with basically nothing and spent decades building something from scratch, and there's a strange mirror-image version of that pressure in Lennon's story: instead of having nothing to build from, he had an enormous shadow to build out from underneath instead. Different problem, same basic task, really — proving your own work stands on its own regardless of what came before you, whether that's an empty slate or an overwhelming one. I have a lot of respect for anyone who manages that, honestly, whichever direction the pressure comes from.
