Chiara Mastroianni has built her own respected career in French cinema, which matters more than it might initially seem given she's the daughter of Catherine Deneuve and Marcello Mastroianni — two towering names any child would have a genuinely hard time stepping into frame next to without disappearing into their shadow entirely. I think a lot about visual legacy and inheritance in my own work, being half Italian-American and half Vietnamese myself, always finding my own composition somewhere between two very different family pictures. Mastroianni carving out real, distinct recognition of her own, rather than just being permanently filed as "daughter of," takes a specific kind of quiet persistence I respect. It's a design problem in its own way — figuring out where your own frame starts when you were born inside someone else's iconic one. She seems to have found that frame and made it genuinely hers, which is harder than it sounds when the family name alone could open, or overshadow, every door.
