Bradley Cooper (b. 1975)

Bradley Cooper went from the very broad comedy of the Hangover trilogy to directing and starring in something as emotionally demanding as A Star Is Born, and that kind of range takes real discipline to pull off convincingly in both directions, not just the serious one. My daughter's in medical school now, working these brutal hours, and one thing I've noticed watching her is that real competence in one area doesn't automatically transfer to a completely different one — she had to build separate, hard-won skills for each new rotation, same as anybody has to actually earn range instead of assuming it comes free with talent. Cooper clearly put in that same kind of separate, deliberate work to be taken seriously as a director on top of already being a successful comedic actor, since Hollywood doesn't usually hand that credibility over easily. I appreciate anyone willing to start over and prove themselves again in a new register instead of just resting on what already worked the first time.
