Andrew Lloyd Webber composed 'The Phantom of the Opera' and 'Cats,' bringing theater to enormous global audiences in a way most composers never come close to reaching, and honestly, even outside my usual sports lane, I respect that kind of career-long dominance in any competitive field, entertainment included. What actually gets my attention as a coach, though, is that he supports young performers through his own charitable foundation, using the resources his success generated to help develop the next generation coming up behind him. I do something similar on a much smaller scale with my free summer basketball camp, and I know firsthand that opening a door for a kid who wouldn't otherwise have one is a different kind of accomplishment than any personal trophy. Lloyd Webber's had the trophies, plenty of them, across a long career. But investing seriously in young talent instead of just enjoying his own is the part of the story that actually says something about a person's character.
